JEWEL TO THE QUEEN CITY

“I have a great relationship with coach [Ron] Sanchez & coach Vic [Sfera] and I feel like I could do really well in their system.” - Daylen Berry

Daylen Berry a 6’4 Shooting guard from Panther Creek HS in Cary, NC committed to UNC Charlotte yesterday. Berry chose Charlotte over schools like St. Johns, UNC Wilmington, James Madison and about ten others. He is their first 2021 commit.

I had the pleasure of watching Berry play this year and let me tell you this dude is a hooper! Even when matched up against the star that is Carter Whitt he stepped up to the challenge on both ends. He guarded Carter tightly on the defensive end, and on the offensive end he scored 21 points while knocking down four three pointers. Berrys game during the high school season consisted of a lot of pull up threes and isolation plays where he took it to the rack. During the AAU season this summer when paired up with other stars like Bobby Pettiford we see him turn into much more of a prototypical shooting guard and team player. He took a lot of catch and shoot threes and passed and moved the ball well.

What does this mean for UNC Charlotte? Well, UNC Charlotte will get a guy who can be a roleplayer but can also step up and take over if need be. Which I think is essential for someone at a mid major school because you never know when a hero will be needed on those kinds of teams. Could he be the next Ja Morant or Jimmer Freddete? We will just have to wait and find out.
