DROPPED 50... AGAIN?!

Last night wasn’t the first time I saw Terquavion Smith score 50 points

In 2017, my guy Tony Bruton aka BucketReel called me and said, "Rod, there's this kid in the 252 that's a walking bucket. You gotta invite him to the Elite 50 camp" Bruton is like 99.8% from the field when he stamps a kid, so I took his word for it and invited Baby T. After about 5 minutes of watching him play, I said to myself, "this dude is different." In a game with two 20 minute halves & a running clock, Terquavion had 50 points. Oddly enough, the only reason he didn't win camp MVP is that he caught a cramp in the All-Star Game and shut it down(Elijah Jamison won MVP). The only difference is last night the clock wasn't running, but he did catch a cramp once again, lol.

In a highly anticipated matchup between two of the top teams in the state, regardless of classification, Farmville Central defeated Trinity Academy of Raleigh 86-78. Trinity was led in scoring by 23' star Jakwon Moore with 26 pts, 22' Sam Perez with 24 pts & 22' sniper Noah Ross with 20pts. For Farmville 21' Leontae Moye had 15 pts & 23' Jah Short 13 pts, but the star of the show was Smith with the 50 points as mentioned earlier.

Let me start by saying that this was a highly efficient 50 points by Smith. There's never been a question of Baby T's scoring ability, more of a concern with his shot selection. I love that T puts the work in daily, so he has supreme confidence in himself. Last night he scored the ball at all three levels. Got to the rim and finished with both hands, got to his spots in the midrange & he even hit a few 3's from beyond NBA range. It was a complete performance. Smith didn't force the issue, and he got all 50 points within the flow of the game. Farmville needed every single one of those 50 last night to secure the win.

Terquavion Smith, in my opinion, is the best scorer in the HoopState. The way that he can create off the bounce to me makes him virtually unstoppable. Suppose Farmville runs the table and wins another state championship, that will be 3 in 4 years for Smith, who's headed to NC State in the fall. That "should" win Smith Mr. Basketball & Gatorade POY. It also should ensure that #1 goes into the rafters in Farmville gymnasium.
