"I can shoot with my left hand, I can shoot with my right hand, I'm amphibious." - Charles Shackleford
Those legendary #HoopState words were spoken by the late, great Charles Shackleford (RIP) after one of his games at NC State back in the 80's. Shackleford was a 6'10" native of Kinston, NC (my home town) where he started his NBA journey.
Kinston is home to famous actress Jaime Pressly, #2 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft Brandon Ingram, current Vanderbilt Head Coach and retired NBA vet Jerry Stackhouse, Reggie Bullock (UNC/NBA), Cedric "Cornbread" Maxwell (retired NBA) and Tony Dawson (retired NBA).
Father of Andrew Wiggins (NBA), Mitchell Wiggins, yup - he's from Kinston. I mean technically he's from Lenior County or whatever but let's not be unnecessary about it.. you know?
Jamie Pressly might seem like an odd way to start that list but she is from Kinston, and I can't stress this enough, that collection of hoopers could NOT carry the thumbnail for this blog... deal with it.
Charles Shackleford's life was certainly a roller coaster but in my one experience, he was a perfect gentleman. I met Charles shortly after I graduated high school, shooting alone inside Kinston's MOC gym. He was in his 40s at the time (I believe) and he was still an absolute bucket but he's from Kinston, so I'd expect nothing less.
Rest in peace, you were an inspiration to many.
So this is it? This is the start of the blog? lol
