WEEK 2 ➡️ Panther Creek (Raleigh, NC)

What’s going on, guys? Welcome to our second week of the team of the week series! My choice was a little more challenging this week, deciding between prep school powerhouse Liberty Heights and one of the hottest public school teams in Panther Creek. Rod gave Liberty Heights some love on the blog earlier this week, so Panther Creek is your Hoop State team of the week!

Panther Creek picked up two wins this week to move to 5-0 on the season, a conference win against Riverside-Durham and a big rivalry win against Green Hope. Panther Creek took down Riverside-Durham in a convincing 19 point road win and Green Hope in a 24 point route at home to win the fight for 55. We saw senior backcourt duo Daylen Berry and Dylan Drinkwater(HOF name BTW) drop a combined 88 points over this two-game stretch. Daylen is already committed to UNC Charlotte, and we’ve known he’s been a star. Still, uncommitted Drinkwater has gone from a reliable third option to a bonafide second star filling the hole Armon Muldrew(2020 senior) left.

Panther Creek 🆚 Riverside-Durham

Panther Creek traveled to Riverside-Durham looking to stay undefeated. They started the first quarter going blow for blow and not looking their best defensively. Then coach Robinson must have done something right in that end of quarter huddle because they went on a 25-4 run to end the half and take a 41-19 lead! They kept this lead-up and went on to win 74-55. They weren’t able to do much from deep this game and only knocked down 3 three-pointers, but it didn’t matter because they were able to get out on the fast break a ton by getting a total of thirteen steals on the game and also scored a lot driving it inside and scoring or getting to the line. Daylen Berry was the clear star of this one scoring 31 points and grabbing seven boards.

Panther Creek 🆚 Green Hope

The fight for 55 has been a massive rivalry for I don’t even know how long, and it’s always a spectacle. However, this year It was not. No fans take away from a rivalry game like this, but the game wasn’t all that competitive anyway as Panther Creek crushed Green Hope 72-48. They started this game hot with a 23-9 lead and continued to dominate all game long. Drinkwater(23 pts) and Berry(18 pts) again earned it inside and on the break as they only knocked down two three-pointers each. Sophomore Tyler Thompson also stepped up big in this one making 14 points and grabbing seven boards. Panther Creek again showed that their defensive prowess and relentless run down your throat offense could be deadly, and they are looking like the clear best team in the Triangle 8 conference.

All in all, with two double-digit wins, including a rivalry win, panther creek earned this team of the week spot. Their stars both played their best basketball all week, and their team defense showed it’s one of the best in the state. They aren’t getting nearly as much love as they should, and some of these 4a powerhouses should be scared of them come tournament time.

One last note: I know this happened last week, but Tyler Thompson did this, and I can’t put it on here.
