HOOP STATE JANUARY PLAYER OF THE MONTH ➡️ Ben Burnham (Carmel Christian '21)

The month of January provided incredible action all around the HoopState and I think the theme of the month should be reaching your potential. We've seen a handful of high level teams starting to round into form and play their best basketball of the season as we start to turn the corner towards the state title push.

One player has been an absolute monster throughout this month and that player is Carmel Christian's very own Ben Burnham. Burnham is a 6'7 senior forward that will be playing his college basketball at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. His combination of motor, elite athleticism, and incredible timing at both ends of the floor makes him one of the most consistently productive players in the state regardless of class.

In the month of January Carmel Christian finished with a 6-0 record in the month moving their season total to 19-1. Burnham's performance has been incredibly consistent all season long but one game in particular stands out. On a Tuesday night with his student section deep in the building, Burnham put up a dominant and loud triple double with 22 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 blocks against a Victory Christian team loaded with division one talent.

Burnham was the unquestioned best and most dominant player on the floor which has been a recurring theme this season. Despite not looking like he'd be a dominant presence on the floor he is in fact incredibly dominant. Burnham is posting averages of 23.2 PPG, 12.4 RPG, 1.7 APG, 1.7 SPG, and 2.4 BPG. He is a legitimate contender for Gatorade Player of the Year and if Carmel Christian can find a way to win the NCISAA 4A State Championship, it's hard not to believe that he'll get that reward.

Congrats to Burnham on being named player of the month, the rest of the season will be incredibly exciting to watch unfold.
