Lucas Taylor, a three star shooting guard out of Heritage High School has committed to Clemson.
Taylor chose Clemson over Miami, Wake forest, Marquette and four others. He will join Joshua Beadle and Ian Schieffelin in the 2021 class as an athletic wing who can score at all three levels along with being able to dish the ball out in style.
He can create well off the dribble which allows him to either pull up from mid-range or use his size and speed to get to the cup. On the defensive end his tough mentality and 6’6 185 pound frame allows him to switch and guard one through five at the high school level and most likely one through four in college. He averaged 21.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in his junior season. He led his Heritage team to a 15-10 overall record (8-2 in conference play) and a NCHSAA playoff appearance.
What does this mean for the Tigers? Well Coach Brownell is an Indiana native who knows a lot about grit and fundamental basketball, I think Taylor will be able to fit right into that. He will bring Clemson great scoring and rebounding off the bench along with intangibles like hustle and a tough defensive mentality. The Tigers are looking to turn their program into a top tier ACC team and Taylor is definitely a great piece to help them reach that goal.
